UNEP

The United Nations Environment Programme (EP) is a leading global authority that sets the environmental agenda for the United Nations. Established in 1972, UNEP encourages sustainable development through sound environmental practices and provides leadership and guidance on environmental issues. With a focus on helping countries implement environmentally sound policies, UNEP promotes the conservation of ecosystems and the sustainable use of natural resources. Through its various programs and initiatives, UNEP aims to inspire action for a healthier, more sustainable planet.

Agenda

"Strengthening global collaboration to protect and restore biodiversity for a sustainable future."

Both the wellbeing of human societies and the health of ecosystems depend on biodiversity. But the rate at which species and their habitats are disappearing as a result of human activities has escalated to worrisome proportions. With an emphasis on cooperative solutions and multilateral agreements to restore and maintain ecosystems, the UNEP committee will deliberate on how to fortify international frameworks for biodiversity protection. The necessity of preserving endangered species, policies that guarantee biodiversity sustainability, and the role that developed and developing countries play in putting these policies into practice will all be covered by the delegates. Delegates will attempt to establish legally enforceable and actionable pledges for the worldwide restoration of biodiversity through diplomatic diplomacy.
